If you listen to the self-proclaimed Gurus of Internet Marketing they would argue that a good responsive mailing list is the corner stone of your business, and yes selling books is a business.
Some of these Gurus are more concerned with their income than they are with their reputation but ultimately their lists become less and less responsive and their incomes fall so they scramble more.
If reputation is then the most important thing how do you develop a good reputation online?
Just Write It! How to Win Forum Friends and Influence People! is a free 18 page report which will show you one way of developing a positive reputation.
Overall the best way to develop a positive reputation is to be involved in the niche of your interest where your main group of customers will come from. Go where they hang out, you probably already do, and join in the conversations.
Ask good questions, provide good answers and become known as the go-to person in that niche. Be honest with those people and you’ll have very little resistance when you offer then something which will help them get closer to what they really want.
If you read my posts here you’ll quickly see that I practice this. I am trying to provide assistance to those of you who are trying to write and publish a book. Most of what I provide here is for free, some has a price tag on it. In part some of the resources I don’t own the rights to or am not permitted, by the rights, to give them away.
By the same token, some of the products and training I have purchased the rights to will be available in the Paid Membership area at either no additional cost or at a heavily subsidised cost. There are some training videos in that area now and more to come but you might like to wait for the announcement before joining there.
Join for free now and keep an eye on what is going on. In the mean time, go get your free 18 page report and take over your favourite forums.

On a secondary note, I discovered today that J.K. Rowlands had the first Harry Potter book rejected by publishers more than 10 times before she found one who thought they could sell it. I learned this on this sales page, Self Publishing Secrets, which is all about how to get your book published and offered for sale on Amazon.
The main take away is to not give up, keep working on your book and keep looking for a publisher and/or agent.
