I had a nice email from Zara telling me about a competition that I thought you might be interested in.  The prize is $100, not a lot of money but then you don’t have to do much either.

However you will need to hone up on your writing skills for this one.  It will require more thought than action and you just might have already written the winning entry.

One single line, that’s all, one single line.

The competition is to write the most engaging opening sentence to a story.  The contest begins on April 15th and closes on May 15th.

Zara would like this to become an annual event and, as with all annual events, your best chance of winning is in the first one before it gets to be outrageously popular.

Quoting directly from the email Zara sent me

“First sentence contest ends May 15. $100 for the best first sentence.
Your sentence should engage the reader immediately and draw us into the
story. Also, you will be setting the tone for the story. More than likely
you will introduce us to your main character but this is not required.“

Interested? Go to the website link below and fill in your name and email address, ignore the rest of the form until you get to the comments box at the bottom.  Type your best opening sentence in that and click the submit button.
