Some of you may have noticed that Bearly Books has been having some issues lately.

There has been an error message displayed on every page telling you that you don’t have permissions to something called max_allowed_packets.  Look at the message in red above this post if you haven’t noticed it.

That message isn’t aimed at you but at me.  The web host has upgraded their version of MySQL, which is where all the content on this site is stored, and this has changed some of the settings.  Unfortunately I have been nailed to the wall with this one as the Content Management System I have been using requires more than the default that is now set.  I can’t change it.

To avoid similar problems in the future I have decided to do a crash course in how to migrate all the content and users from one CMS to another and totally rebuild the site.

Sorry, there will be errors aplenty as we go through this process but I am hopeful that they will not be too disruptive.  I can guarantee that I will be working very hard and long hours to get this done as  seamlessly as possible.

I am working long hours to make this happen and I am happy to report that I think the re-born Bearly books site will be available in around a weeks time.  I have to work out how to move all the users and their data across as well as all the content and the catalog.

The look of the site will change a bit as will the way it is used but hopefully it won’t result in too challening a learning curve.  Hang in there, it’ll be better soon.
