Every now and then I go back to sites which I like and read the new posts as well as, sometimes the old posts.  The reason for reading old posts is that I read so much I can forget the details.  Many of my favourite blogs are on that list because they provide good information, I don’t always agree with everything they write but that doesn’t negate the value of the rest.

I am on Jonathan Ledger’s mailing list because I like the way he does business.  I don’t buy much but I always learn something.

This post on how not to sell I even left a comment on because I had had similar experiences.  I think I need to review the sales process on this site in the light of my re-reading of the post.

It is a bit of a challenge when using shopping cart software because there are multiple clicks to put a product into the cart and then heading through the checkout.  Then you have the process of going through the payment processor, on this site that’s Paypal which is about as fast as I can find but still multiple clicks and a login.

I don’t like the process myself but there are very few sites where it is much better.  It isn’t easy to do much more unless you do your own processing.

Part of the reason for the steps on this site is to make sure that those who refer visitors via their affiliate link are properly credited with that.  I gotta be able to track that.

If you are planning to sell your book from your own website you should read the post on Jonathan’s blog at the very least you’ll learn what not to do.  Using Paypal is not a bad idea and their process to join or set up is pretty good.  Their help desk is pretty bad though so if you have to use it be patient.  You could ask me or search for answers as they are probably online somewhere.
