I asked Zara how the competition for the $100 was going. Remember, it closes at midnight on the 15th May. Don’t wait until then though because I don’t know where the time is being determined. You’re probably OK in Australia or New Zealand if you put your entry in before midday on the 16th May but don’t count on it.
My previous post on this was Wanna make 100 bucks and the details are that you need to write the starting line for your story. That’s it, one line. Can you do it? I think you can. Will you do it? Why wouldn’t you?
It reminds me of something I wrote about a while back about the challenge of the shortest story ever. The best I saw was “For sale. Baby Shoes. Never used.”
Why is that similar? It’s all about using your writing skill and wordsmithing to transmit as much meaning as possible in the least number of words. Not something that I can be accused of with most of what I write.
Many writers are not, or at least don’t seem to be, concerned with how many words they use to make their point or tell their story. Some seem to positively revel in language and verbosity and write absolute reams of preposterous flowery prose and take several chapters to actually get to the point. I can’t stand that myself, I may write a lot but I do actually attempt to keep on track and deliver content which has at least some value for you. I probably don’t always succeed but what works for you may not work for another reader and vice versa.
Back to the main subject of this post. If you want to enter the competition to win $100 you need to go to http://zaraaltair.com/Home_Page.html and enter. By the way, Zara has told me that there are currently only 30 entries so the odds are excellent that you can win.
In traditional Aussie lingo ‘avagoyahmug’ the translation for the rest of you give it a try, what have you go to lose? We won’t even know you entered unless you win or you tell us.
