Learn to read. It’s so important these days that your children are good communicators.  Reading and writing are still the most important skills your children must have for success in life.

They are also useful skills for your own personal entertainment and education.  It is true that children of parents who have been failed by their schools and are poor readers will most likely be poor readers themselves.

It doesn’t have to be like this.  Using the materials in my reading  modules can improve your reading as you teach your child to read.

All you have to do is follow the worksheets, read them out to your child, have them repeat it after you.  Then have them read it to you and you read it back.  This helps them have confidence that they can read and that they are learning.

These worksheets assume that your child is talking and so knows the sounds of the letters even if they don’t know what they look like written down.

The main concept of this method of learning to read is to work on groups of words which are made up of complete two letter words plus one additional letter.  As the student learns to read these they have additional words added to their vocabulary in a way which teaches them how to read unknown words by sounding the parts they do know and the letters they know.

The order in which this is done is the one which has been demonstrated to work the best over many, many sessions with students.  It is best for your learning to read child that they follow the same steps.

I have found that some students start slowly and then rush ahead in leaps and bounds where others just keep on with steady progress.  There are always some who are just bolters and fairly rip through the worksheets.

It doesn’t matter how your child learns to read or at what pace, even if they stall for a while, this is all normal for them and your perserverence and patience is what is missing from their schooling.

With your love and help they too can become an accomplished reader and writer and that can only make their lives easier and allow them to become the best person they can be.  They can become happy, well adjusted members of society.
